The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today launched its first ever BAFTA Kids Young Presenter Competition.
The competition aims to find an exciting new young presenter, aged between seven and 14. The lucky winner will get the once-in-a-lifetime experience of hosting BAFTA’s behind-the-scenes coverage at the British Academy Children’s Awards on 20 November at The Roundhouse in Camden, London.
This competition forms part of the BAFTA Kids programme, a year-round series of events for families across the UK, run by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, including workshops, roadshows and master classes. BAFTA Kids’ activity provides an entertaining introduction to the world of children’s film, television, games and websites, showcasing the winners and nominees from the annual BAFTA Children’s Awards, which recognises and celebrates excellence in the Children’s Media industry.
To enter the competition, children are invited to submit a short video of no more than two minutes, which shows them interviewing someone to whom they would like to give an award to. This might be a teacher, parent, brother, sister or friend.
In the video, the presenter should introduce the person receiving the award, ask them three questions, and conclude with explaining why their recipient deserves an award. Each video should include the line “Reporting for BAFTA Kids” either at the start or end of the film.
An independent jury, comprising some of the most well known presenters in children’s television, will select the winner. The jury will be looking for someone who is friendly and engaging and with a real passion for presenting.
The jury’s top tips for entrants are:
- Speak clearly
- Be enthusiastic!
- Be original with the three questions – think about what the audience would want to know about the person winning the award
The deadline for entries is 6 October 2016 and the winner will be notified on 20 October 2016.

The competition is open to children ages between 7 and 14 inclusive and full permission of the parents or guardians will be required.
