London, 14 October: Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will meet the winners of a UK-wide BAFTA game design competition for 10 to18 year-olds during a visit to Dundee on Friday 23 October. The meeting, at Abertay University, will be the highlight of an event hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to showcase its support for new talent in the games industry. HRH The Duke of Cambridge is President of BAFTA.
During the visit The Duke and Duchess will view the games of the four young people – Camylle Tuliao (14), Jack Reynolds (16), Louis Jackson (12) and Jack Mills (17) – who will be spending the day at Abertay University as part of their prize for winning their respective categories in the BAFTA Young Game Designers (YGD) competition. BAFTA YGD, in association with Nominet Trust, aims to encourage young people to consider a career in games creation, and helps them access the inspirational creative minds behind their favourite games. The young designers are developing their games further with professional games studios in Dundee.
Their Royal Highnesses will also meet other talented individuals who have benefitted from BAFTA initiatives such as: the BAFTA Ones To Watch Award in association with Dare to be Digital, which is presented at the British Academy Games Awards; BAFTA Breakthrough Brits in partnership with Burberry, which honours up-and-coming talent across film, television and games; and the BAFTA Scholarship Programme, which this year includes two recipients who are studying for a postgraduate degree in computer games development at Abertay University.
